Campus Data Center Upgrade:
Intermittent Service Interruptions Possible June 17 - June 19

Campus users may experience brief network service interruptions the evening of Friday, June 17 through Sunday, June 19, as Information Technology Services (ITS) performs an upgrade to the main campus Data Center equipment.

This work to improve Cal Poly’s network infrastructure is part of the CSU’s Common Network Initiative (CNI).

Upgrade Schedule

  • Friday, June 17, 5 p.m. – midnight
  • Saturday, June 18, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, June 19, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

We don’t expect any outages to critical services during the upgrade, but it should be noted that colleges and departments with server equipment housed in the Data Center will experience some downtime. For specific information about those outages, please contact your technical coordinator.

Phase II - Campus Network Upgrade August 2015 - June 2016

Moving the campus community to the new network is tentatively scheduled to begin August 10th and there will be brief outages during the migrations. Information will be released to the campus once the schedule is finalized and prior to any network outages due to the network upgrade.

A description of what to expect during the migration and an estimated migration schedule will be posted to this site.

CNI Project materials are available on the Cal Poly Wiki.

Phase I - Campus Network Upgrade To Be Completed Early August 2015

ITS, working with the Chancellor’s Office, is upgrading the campus network. Work is currently in progress to build a parallel network to replace the existing network. Although you may notice technical staff working in your areas, no outages will occur while this phase of work is performed.
